Hey there!

My name’s Sandy Salierno and I love making clothes!

I was going to just tag this project to the end of my August 2020 SockCrate Review but I love these socks so I can’t not give them their due.

The yarn is Knitologie Super Sock in the colourway Succulent.* It’s a 75/20 superwash merino/nylon blend and I mean, it’s a good yarn. It’s basic, but it’s definitely cute. I’ve worked with Knitologie sock yarn before and it wears well.

I used the Cactus Flower Sock pattern that came with the crate, but it’s also on Ravelry. I like how this pattern turned out, but it was a bit strange to knit. To be fair, it’s been over a year since I made a sock. I’ve also never made a lace sock. I just found that this pattern didn’t line up nicely in like… an equal amount of stitches for each needle.

I kind of just followed the instructions in a way that made sort of sense to me. I’m still not sure what, if anything, I did wrong but they look nice, so… result?

I did three repeats on the leg instead of the suggested four, and even that feels too long. If I did this again I’d do two or even one. The only shoes I have that cover them are tall boots. I also did the option to keep the ribbing on the toes, and I didn’t end up liking how that turned out, so I wouldn't do that again.

All up, despite some small issues I love these socks. I’ll definitely get lots of boot-wearing days out of them!

If you like a cuff-down sock, I’d definitely give this pattern a go. Since they’re inspired by a prickly pear cactus I’m thinking maybe a vivid pink?
