The Debbie Bliss Bear Necessities Layette Review
I don’t think I’ve ever been more excited to write a post. I have been working on this set for so long and it’s finally done.

If you’re new, I’m talking about the Bear Necessities Set by Debbie Bliss. I made one of the sweaters, the blanket, and the hat.
I don’t have a lot of experience knitting hats flat, but I followed the instructions and it worked a treat. The little ears were absolutely adorable and pretty easy to make. It’s definitely a bit of a trust the process but you’ll get there.
The sweater construction is a very standard seamed baby sweater. It works up pretty easily.
The only really big issue I came across was the button band. The row math just wasn’t working for me, so I decided to echo the blanket’s seed stitch border and do a few rows of that with the buttonholes. It worked perfectly and looks just as cute as… whatever they were doing.
I still can’t figure it out.
The blanket kind of echoed this entire set. Nothing really was complicated, but the stitch patterns definitely took a lot. There are cables, bobbles, colourwork, mock cables, a twisted stitch thing… it definitely took a lot of effort but was well worth it since this entire thing is just too cute.
I want to recommend this as a challenging knit, but I’m not sure I 100% can. While yes, the stitch patterns are a lot to keep track of the pattern is really well written and it knits up easily. I think the hardest thing is how much you have to keep track of while doing this. It’s got a lot going on; however, I think an ambitious beginner with lots of patience could complete this. It was also cool to have a go at basic embroidery on knitting.
This set has taken a long time and been a bit of a journey. I really do love how it turned out and can’t wait for my nephew to get snuggled up in it.
