What a name.

Best Fashion Solutions DIY Fashion Bag (Best Gift For You).

I’m sure you’ve seen the ads floating around Insta and Facebook. They claim that leatherwork is a great hobby and that this is a great way to start. They offer a Cambridge Satchel kit and a wool Gucci-esque bag. Obviously I got both, today we’re talking about the satchel for… well, you’ll see.

They claim that it looks small but with large capacity…. and they claim that it’s leather.

First off, I’m pretty sure it’s not leather. You can clearly see that it has a filling and a backing, and some of the perforations hadn’t fully been punched and when you dislodge them it’s a bit thread-y and fabric like. When you look at the actual material they say leather and microfiber since it looks leathery on both sides I’m not sure if it’s leather that’s got microfiber sandwiched in between two pieces of leather or full-on fake leather.

The issue with leather is that it’s really easy to make good knockoffs, so the only way to be sure is to get it from somewhere you trust. So, is it leather? I don’t know. Maybe one day when I work with leather more I’ll be able to tell but for now, the jury’s out. Though I’m definitely leaning towards not.

The bag pieces came packed in a zip bag.

I was really happy with the accessories kit. It came with the hardware and rivets you’ll need, plus an extra rivet and waxed thread. The thing that I found really good was the inclusion of thread snips, a small screwdriver, and not one, but three leather needles. I love this style of snips, so I was happy to have a pair.

One thing this kit did not come with is instructions. I tore everything apart looking for any sort of direction and nothing. I decided to start with this kit because it’s a bit more intuitive than the wool one. I laid out the pieces the way I thought they made sense and then stared at the website pictures until I came to a conclusion.

It turned out to be pretty intuitive. You see a hole, you make a backstitch. You see a bigger hole? You pop in a rivet.

All up, I think the bag is cute and I had fun doing it. The lack of instructions and the questionable material make me wonder if it’s something I’d 100% recommend, but at the same time, I kind of want to get the green one so I can trace out the pieces and make a pattern from it because, well, the bag is cute. I think this would be great if you sew but you’ve never made a bag and just want something fun to do for the evening. If I had a crafty group of friends I’d get a few of these kits and have an awesome crafternoon.

With stuff like this, I think expectation management is key. I was honestly expecting bottom of the barrel, absolutely awful so when this kit came and actually made a fully functioning bag I was pleasantly surprised. Yes, I could have found a bag like this cheaper on AliExpress, but at least this way I know the seaming is strong. Most fashion craft kits are far more expensive than this one, even ones labelled “vegan leather”- which is what we’re probably looking at here.
