Gemmed Phone Case
So, my phone took a dip in the washing machine. There was a duvet incident, it was all very tragic.
I only buy used phones because, well, this wasn’t an isolated incident. When the new phone came (in its original box, might I add) it had a case AND a screen protector! That’s like winning the used phone lottery.
I’ve been craving an easy, relaxed project and when I looked at that let’s-call-it-free phone case, all I saw was rhinestones.
The supplies are simple for this one. Obviously you’ll need a phone case- this one was one of those bendy ones. I used Gem-Tac for my glue. You’ll definitely need rhinestones- mine were leftover from my rhinestone shoes. I grabbed a bunch of packs but I used less than one. I also grabbed some vodka- you could use rubbing alcohol- and a bit of cotton wool. I ended up using a toothpick to help position the stones…. and you’ll also want a good bit of entertainment.
Gemming is a good time as well as a long time.
I used the mailer the phone came in as a project mat because well, look. I’m getting better but glue is messy… It’s only natural it kind of gets everywhere…
So, you may be thinking, “Why on earth does this project require vodka?” Well, that brings us to the first step. Basically, you want this case clean and grippy. Hands have oil and oil is the enemy of a good stick, so I took cotton wool and the easiest form of pure alcohol, and gave my case a good rub down and let it dry.
I started by outlining the camera and finger unlocking spots.
Then it was just a matter of filling it in.
Let it dry for 24 hours and you’ve got this!
This is really one of the easiest things to do. I mean, is it the most beautiful project I’ve ever done? No. I could have paid more attention, and like my rhinestone shoes, I truly believe the smaller the rhinestone the more elegant something looks.
Does it make me smile every time I look at it and give my phone a bit of extra grip?
Absolutely.
Honestly, I think my quarantine mood is going to be covering stuff in rhinestones.
