Hey there!

My name’s Sandy Salierno and I love making clothes!

Oh Baby (knits)!

Oh Baby (knits)!

It’s been an interesting few weeks. I’ve been mostly knitting and it’s made me realize just how strange knitting is. I feel like I’ve done so much and knit a lot…. but yet I also feel like I have very little to show for it.

I haven’t been working on my temperature blanket. Spring is officially here and I’m not 100% sure I want to be sitting under a wool blanket in the heat. Also, I once again ran out of the sixteen to eighteen-degreeus yarn. I need to nip to the yarn shop which isn’t much of a chore, is it?

Just a heads up, I use affiliate links. For more information check out my Affiliate Link and Sponsorship Disclaimer.

I’ve been making the Heirloom Set for my niece. I’m so excited to be done the knitting, seaming, and weaving in the ends for this cardigan. I mean, this is honestly just darling. Though this is my first time making the whole layette I’ve made the cardigan and the bonnet for friends before. This pattern is so damn cute and hits it every time. I’m using Lanasalpaca Organic Baby yarn. It’s a 50/50 merino cotton mix and it is lovely. Once I use up all the stuff I’ve stashed I think this might become my go-to baby yarn.

Also from the Heirloom Set I’ve almost finished the bootees! I don’t usually do a bootee, but the pattern was there and how could I not? All I have left to do is seam them and I’m going to be honest, I absolutely suck at seaming. I usually just do a backstitch to attach things but since the seaming here goes on the bottom of the foot I actually want to do it properly.

All up the pattern was well written and I got through it without problems but man, that bobble row was rib two, make bobble and it just took forever. Totally worth it as it’s so cute but it was a trial AND a tribulation.

When I make a baby gift for a second baby I make sure to make something for the older sibling as well. This is the Winter Smiles Hat by Drops Yarn. I’m using a stash yarn by Tivoli Spinners that I can not for the life of me find anywhere on the internet. It’s a superwash merino and it’s working up wonderfully in this hat.

I’m not going to lie, this is a LOT of 1x1 rib. It’s exactly as tedious as you think it is, but it’ll be worth it. My nephew is 2 and I’m making the size 3-4. I’m thinking the rib kind of cinches in so he’ll be able to wear it now, but since it’s so stretchy and a bit slouchy and has a foldover I’m hoping he’ll be able to wear it for a few years.

I know what you’re thinking, no two-year-old is going to be extra excited for a hat, but rest assured we also got him a toy car.

I think I’m just at that age where people are having lots and lots of babies so my life has been baby knits. This one ended up being a bit of a wild card. I saw this pattern, the Quinn Cardigan by Yarnsmiths. The picture was super cute, it was the weight I needed but upon further inspection, I noticed there were no finished projects on Ravelry. My curiosity was piqued and I knew I had to make it. I’ve started it and so far so good. I’m using stash yarn- Wendy with Wool DK. It’s 80% acrylic and 20% wool. I bought it to make a Santa hat one year and have a tonne left over so I’m happy it can be used for maximum cuteness.

I actually didn’t realize how many baby things have ruled my life until right now. Lest you think I’m the most generous person ever I do have a selfish project on! This is the Intersections Sock from 52 Weeks of Socks. It doesn’t look like I’ve done a lot, but that’s mostly because I spent two days thinking back to fix a mistake I made in the cabling. There’s something particularly soul-destroying about doing that but the mistake was bugging me too much and I knew I wouldn’t be able to live with it. I’m making these in a basic Opal Sock Wool and the colour is so beautiful I’m thinking I need to make a sweater in this but I’m not sure I have the gumption for a fingering weight sweater…

Or do I?

This week I do have a few goals. I want to finish and block the baby set and hopefully finish the hat and my socks. I also want to do some self-drafted clothes from magazine tutorials. I realised I don’t have a tonne of summer clothes so I need to get on that. Wish me luck!
