The Finisher's Circle!
Well, it has been a while and a half. I took a bit of a break to manically sew and go to Greece for my friend’s wedding. While I was there I ended up getting a new job and started the week after I got back. It’s been hectic, but also ridiculously crafty. I feel like I’ve finally started to get things finished.

I don’t want to play favourites, but… here we are. With a completed Bear Necessities Set. I am so excited about how stinking cute this turned out. I used the recommended Debbie Bliss Cashmerino, which was a joy to work with. This has been a bit of a struggle, and a long time coming, but I’m really proud of the end product and can’t wait for my nephew to have it.
Just in time for summer.
Look, this kid needs to learn early that Aunt Sandy’s craft process is not about timeliness.
I needed a bit of knitting for my trip so I started the Canadian Cottage Headband. I was so intrigued by the stitch and how it looks almost woven. I finished the headband on the plane to Athens, and started the cowl on the ferry to Paros. There’s no pattern for the cowl, I just cast on and added three moss stitches to the side to stabilize it. I would have gotten a lot further but…
It finally happened.
After countless flights knitting, my needles got taken away at Athens airport. I’ve heard this has happened to other people at Athens so just know if you pass through there maybe try crochet and let me know how it goes. I think I have this size in interchangeables, but I’m still deeply irritated about it.
I’m making this in Mrs. Crosby’s Wanderlust yarn. They’ve since folded, but it’s a bulky weight 95% superwash merino, 5% nylon.
This is on hold for a bit since I don’t have my flats and my circular cord the size I need is in use…
… with a baby set! My friend is expecting a little girl so naturally that warrants a hat and a cute little cardigan! This is the Heirloom Set by Paintbox Yarns and I mean, it’s up there on the cuteness. I’m making it in Rico Essentials Merino DK so it’s also super soft and gorgeous. It’s a very involved pattern but it’s knitting up quite quickly.
I mean, the cuteness in this post is overload. You’re welcome.
Last but not least for knitting we have the Winter Rose Socks by Helen Stewart. I’m making them on an Apple Oak Fibreworks wool/ramie/silk base that I dyed with one of their natural dye kits- I’m fairly certain hibiscus, maybe elderflower.
This pattern is part of a handmade sock society collection. I’m absolutely loving this one. It’s an easy but still active pattern and has become my commute knit. Any of the handmade sock society patterns are great for when you want to destress but also not be bored.
One of the most exciting makes I’ve done has to be M8174. My friend wanted everyone in white for her wedding and I think I matched the vibe perfectly. I’m happy with how it turned out, but I’m a bit concerned about where my sizing lies in the big four patterns at the moment. I made this in a 28W bust, a 26W waist, and a 30W hip. I definitely needed to go down one, maybe two sizes in the bust and waist, but my hip was spot on. The issue is they simply don’t sell patterns in a graded nest for this and the way they’ve passed off or deleted every comment about more plus sizing makes me think they never will. The extra room in the bust did create a nice drape that I think looked good with the style. I was hoping to make both the other views with the sleeves but I don’t know if the drape will look as good.
In any case, let’s talk about colour. I did a quick dip in a tea bath to neutralize the super white fabric I used and warm it up a bit. I am so happy I did this; however, I know if I keep this gown in any form of white I’ll simply never wear it again. Right now I’m debating between Dylon plum red and deep amethyst. Any and all opinions are greatly welcomed.
Seriously, I change my mind about it every ten seconds. It’s exhausting and I need your opinions!
So, hopefully, I’ll be able to get back to weekly updates, as well as other content. It’s been interesting going back to work outside of the home and I’m excited but also nervous. Thank you so much for bearing with me, and hope to see you super soon!
