Hey there!

Let's Make This Harder on Myself...

I’m happy to report that this week I have a tiny bit of reason for my slow progress- I’ve managed to unpack a little bit more. I’m finally at the point where I can reach my shelves and start my craft space. I’m really excited to have a dedicated space I can work in.

But, alas, until that gets up and running I’ll settle for my couch crafts.

Just a heads up, I sometimes use affiliate links. For more information on what they are and how I use them check out my affiliate link and sponsorship disclaimer.

I’ve gotten some progress on the Debbie Bliss Bear Necessities Layette. I’m making this for my nephew to be out of the pattern recommended Debbie Bliss Cashmerino, which I’m actually loving. So far so good, this is the back of the sweater. I’m making it in the 12-18 month size because so far he seems like he’s going to be a big baby, but also if he’s born next month he’ll be able to wear it most of next winter. The only thing is…

Well, this happens to me every time I knit baby stuff. I start panicking because things seem too big. Babies are supposed to be small, no? Honestly, I don’t hang out with a lot of them so I have no size reference but I feel like this is way too big? I feel like if I follow the pattern how off can it be?

As for the blanket I haven’t woven in any more ends because, well, I hate doing it. I did have a bit of a thought. I saw something on a knitting Facebook group where someone mentioned lining a blanket. Now, there are a few things at play here: first off, I’m not super experienced in colourwork and I think my floats are a bit off. I’ve noticed the brown bit tends to like, pinch together. Secondly, I’m worried about his little fingers and toes getting caught in the strands. Third, I’m not sure I’ll be able to seamlessly weave in the dark brown embroidery yarns. I’ve never done it before and I know it’s probably more work than it’s worth but what if I sewed a cream linen panel onto the back and hand-quilted the individual circles down?

Don’t get me wrong, I’m very aware of the fact that it will be an insanely annoying process…. but I’ve worked really hard on this so far and I want it to truly become a sort of heirloom. Also, I want it to be undeniably practical so it gets used lots. I’m thinking I’ll keep the knitted border and just sew down the linen, hiding my stitches as best I can. Has anyone done this? Is this insane? Is it a good idea? Let me know.

As for my temperature blanket (made in Drops Karisma) we’ve had a bit of an arctic blast here so it’s not as dimensional as it previously has been. It’s starting to actually look like something as opposed to just a big marl of crochet. I’m honestly mildly annoyed because it’s so cold that sitting underneath this blanket while I crochet it would be excellent but, it’s just not there yet.

I haven’t shopped for any supplies, but I did get a notice that the I Can Make Shoes class has been upgraded! If you’re looking to start making shoes, or just hoard a bunch of craft supplies and make excuses as to why you haven’t started it yet, now’s a good time.

Seriously though, once I have an actual table and workstation set up shoemaking is going to be a top priority.

As well as sewing.

And beading.

And I’ve been looking at looms…

This post has a video that includes a bit of a craft room moving box unpack!
