Slow Progress is Still Progress
Another week has gone by. This has been both one of the quickest and slowest weeks I’ve ever experienced. The days have truly felt like they were dragging on but yet, where did the week go? I’m genuinely confused.
I also had some issues with anxiety this week and decided to make taking care of myself the main priority. I think I’ve just needed more rest than I’ll allow myself to get. Between that and unpacking a bit more it’s been… well, a lot lighter on crafting than I’d like. But, I think that’s more than okay. Any bit of progress is better than doing nothing at all.
As always, sometimes I use affiliate links. For more information on what they are and how I use them check out my Affiliate Link and Sponsorship Disclaimer.
I’ve done the most on the sweater I’m making for my nephew-to-be. It’s the Bear Necessities Set by Debbie Bliss. I’ve finished the hat, the blanket, and this sweater. The little brown dots will eventually be embroidered to look like little teddy bear faces.
Honestly, the entire thing is so darn cute. It’s definitely a labour of love- there’s a LOT of technique in this- but I think I’ve finally gotten the hang of it. I’m using the yarn in the pattern, right down to the shades. It’s Cashmerino by Debbie Bliss, a merino wool, acrylic, and cashmere blend.
While I’m not super impressed with how little I’ve done on it this week at least it’s something.
The only other project I’ve worked on has been my crochet temperature blanket. I finally got a repeat day that ended up being three repeat days and I have officially finished the first skein of the grey.
I’m making it in Drops Karisma and I’m honestly really into this project. It’s given me a good reason to crochet every day and keep up at least some craft momentum. I also am in shock over how handy it is actually knowing the weather. I should have paid this much attention ages ago.
The only other crafty consideration I have is a matter of decoupage.
This was in the living room at the house in Cork, but there it was in a corner so you couldn’t see the back. It’s the Hemnes Chest of Two Drawers from IKEA and man, it’s handy to have by the couch. I keep all my couch crafts pretty neat and the coffee table has stayed much clearer. The only issue is if I put it against the wall here I don’t have access to the drawers but the back is… lacklustre. It definitely looks unintentional.
Last year I got to pick the calendar so of course, I got an art-based one- The Works of Mucha. I haven’t wanted to throw it out because the paintings are so gorgeous so I got to thinking, could I not just decoupage the cutouts of paintings from the calendar onto the MDF? I don’t think it would be super subtle given both where it is and the Mucha colour palette but it would look a bit more intentional and give it some personality. I’m thinking Mod Podge is enough but I’ve never decoupaged so… basically I am 100% soliciting opinions and advice.
I’m hoping I’ll get a bit more done this week. Resting has helped but the thing that helped the most was letting myself not feel bad for resting. Sometimes we just need to heal.
I’ve also made a video to go along with this post so check that out if you’re interested.
